“I could never work with my other half.” We hear it a lot. I used to wonder if they were right. On paper our career paths were very different One of us took the traditional education route and built a career that was largely office-based for many years. The other left school early, learned from the ground up, and feels most at home on site. Different paths. Different experiences. Very different skill sets. Was I nervous about combining work and our relationship? Absolutely. But almost three years later, I can admit I didn’t need to be. Together, we’ve built J FROST CIVILS LTD on trust, respect, and very clear roles. We lead different parts of the business. We play to our strengths. We give each other the space to lead. A lot of our decisions are made while we’re walking. It keeps the step count up, but more importantly, it’s where we talk most openly and freely. There’s no strict line between work and home for us. We talk about work when we need to and those conversations happen best side by side, without pressure. We share the same values, the same standards, and the same determination to do right by our people and our clients. It’s not always easy but it works for us. Humour and caffeine are essential. I wouldn’t have it any other way. Do you work alongside your other half? How do you make it work? jamie frost MCIOB

I do and it works. It's really down to personalities and your relationship. You should have a clear picture of this before hand as you are together!

When I worked for the Phone Company years ago, I was taken aback at how many married couples worked in the same office. I wondered how they did it.

I used to work with my ex and honestly it was the only thing that actually worked in our relationship. So it can work…sometimes!
